Looking for a headshot photographer? I’d love to talk to you! I have been taking headshots for actors, models, dancers, fitness coaches and corporate professionals for years, and am constantly working to bring you the BEST quality headshot (and/or portrait!)! Here’s a little bit about what happens when you book a headshot session with me!
- First of all, I start off with a consultation (on the phone, or by email). I find out what my clients would like and need: the purpose of their headshots, how quickly they will need them, the style they are interested in, and where they would like to do the headshots-in studio or at an outdoor location-or both! Once the appointment is booked, I consult with my clients regarding how to prepare for the session, including hair and makeup (if necessary), skin, clothing (very important!), nails, etc…
- On the day of the headshot session, I take a look at the clothing my clients have brought and we discuss the plan for the session! Some clients are a little nervous when they first arrive, especially if they have never had a photo shoot before. Trust me… this only lasts for a minute! As soon as we start taking photographs my clients learn that they can relax and feel right at home! During the photo shoot, I work with professional equipment, including full frame DSLRs, professional L-series lenses, strobes (used in combination with natural light), as well as a variety of backdrops. Yes, I have excellent equipment, but don’t ever judge a photographer by their equipment. As Ansel Adams once said, “The single most important component of a camera is the twelves inches behind it”. I work extremely hard at constantly developing my skills and ensuring I am going to deliver top quality results. I also know exactly how to work with my subjects to get the best possible results for them…through proper posing, smiles (or no smiles!), how to look at the camera to connect with the eyes, where to place the hands, paying attention to the chin, etc… Getting to this point has taken a lot of hard work: through studying the work of the masters of photography, reading, taking courses, and most of all…taking thousands (and thousands!) of photographs of clients that have helped build my skills to where they are today.
- After the session, I provide my clients with their strongest 30+ proofs which are presented to them in a password protected online gallery. Often my clients do a great job at selecting their top headshots…but sometimes they need help. I consult with my clients to help them select their strongest photographs to be used in their portfolios or on their social media/websites, ensuring they have a variety of looks and styles. If clients are applying to a talent agency, I like to know which agency it is, as some have specific headshot requirements.
- Finally, a thorough edit takes place. I work extremely hard at my retouching skills with Adobe Photoshop to bring you a beautiful, natural edit that doesn’t scream Photoshop! (A common mistake to make while editing is to OVER SOFTEN the skin by being too heavy handed at techniques such as frequency separation, or by using a one size fits all filter, which gets rid of all definition in the skin, including the pores, and gives it an unnatural glowing effect. I edit the skin in a way that gets rid of blemishes and uneven skin tone, reduces the appearance of wrinkles (if necessary), enhances colours, but still makes the person look like themselves. Photos are delivered to clients via download on a password protected site, where they may share them with talent agencies.
There is so much that goes into a great headshot session! I’m very proud to say that my clients have used their headshots when applying to talent agencies all across the GTA… This is very important, because nobody wants to waste their time and money in a headshot session, only to find out the photographer didn’t have the skills necessary to produce a quality headshot that would be accepted by agencies.
